Drug Interactions

Drinking alcohol can go much lower your blood pressure and may increase certain side effects of irbesartan. Do not use potassium supplements or salt substitutes while taking irbesartan, unless your doctor has told you. Avoid getting up too fast from sitting or lying position, you may feel dizzy. Get up slowly and steady to avoid a fall.

Tell your doctor about all medications you use, especially a diuretic (water pill water pill).

This list is not complete and there may be other drugs that can interact with irbesartan. Tell your doctor about all medications you use. Include the products obtained with or without medications, vitamins, and herbal products. Do not start using a new medication without telling your doctor.

Also you should take into consideration the following situations:

  • Tell your doctor of all over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including any other drugs for blood pressure (e.g., diuretics-"water pills").
  • Do not take any over-the-counter medication for allergies or cough or colds without consulting your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Many of the products contain ingredients which may interact with the effects of this medication.
  • Also, tell your doctor of any aspirin or aspirin-like pain or fever medications that you use and of other drugs that can cause kidney problems such as amphotericin, gentamicin, etc.
  • Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
